Car parts scattered everywhere after a five-car crash claims the life of one of the people involved.

The crash happened at Old U.S. 41 in Collier County and shut down northbound lanes on U.S. 41 for hours.

The car with the most substantial damage was reduced to mangled metal and didn’t even appear to look like a car from the back end. Underneath the car was an entire palm tree that was taken out in the crash as well.

We know one person is dead, no other injuries were reported, and five vehicles were involved in the crash.

The car that took out a palm tree ended up pointing south in the northbound lanes of Tamiami Trail, while a truck in the southbound lanes ended up pointing east.

The accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Venessa Hunt spoke with WINK News and said she was on her way to work when it happened and she said it’s one of the worst wrecks she’s ever seen.

“I’ve not ever seen anybody be cut out and taken out like that it was hard to see you know my heart breaks for that man all of the people just the whole situation,” Hunt said.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol were on the scene for hours.

At one point traffic was backed up to the Mercato, which is about three miles south of where the accident happened. The area was extremely congested and even bumper-to-bumper traffic during rush hour.
