The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the aftermath of a shooting near a Wawa convenience store.
Deputies responded to reports of gunshots off of U.S. 41, near the Wawa, at around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
CCSO confirmed the shooting at 11 a.m., stating that all parties have been accounted for and that there is no threat to the public.
U.S. 41 was closed for hours but has since reopened in both directions.
The Wawa’s parking lot was seen wrapped with yellow police tape.
Helicopters could be seen surveying the area.
A WINK News viewer witnessed a med flight helicopter taking off near the scene.
An on-scene witness claimed that she had seen two men exchanging gunfire at the Wawa station.
Both men were airlifted separately to treat their injuries.
The North Port Police Department also responded to the scene.
The reasons behind the shooting remain under investigation.
