FORT MYERS, Fla. – A 37-year-old man was killed just before 9 a.m. Thursday morning following a shooting at Cranford Avenue and Ella Piper Way, Fort Myers police said.

Rodney Greenlee’s body was found on a sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kendrick B. Moore, 39, was arrested and faces second-degree murder and weapons charges, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

One witness said about six shots were fired.

“It was a loud boom, boom, boom, I mean very loud,” neighbor Sara Curtis said. “… This is not the first time somebody has been killed over here, so it’s really scary, and I don’t even get out and walk. I have to do my exercise in my house.”

Other neighbors said Greenlee and Moore are related and that Moore is related to a man killed last week behind a gas station on South Cleveland Avenue.

“This has got to stop and this is getting ridiculous,” said a person who declined to be identified.

Royal Palm Exceptional and Dunbar Community schools were temporarily placed on lockdown due to the investigation. Detectives questioned the drivers and students on a couple of school buses that were passing by the area about what they saw.

No further information was immediately available.
