10-year-old boy in critical condition after ATV accident

MOORE HAVEN, Fla.- A little boy is in critical condition after an accident involving a truck and an ATV. 10-year-old Johnny Crawford and his twin brother were riding the vehicles when he collided with a truck. It happened yesterday at the corner of Hendrix Street and Huggins Avenue in Moore Haven.

“Yesterday was an incident we won’t forget because little kids are always out here riding around but yesterday we almost lost one,” said Josh Redd, Johnny’s older brother.

Redd says his brother is lucky to be alive tonight and they’re glad that he was wearing a helmet.

“I’m very grateful that they wear their helmets because while we were growing up we had no helmets we wore nothing. So I’m just grateful,” said Redd.

Florida Highway Patrol reports say Johnny drove through an area of grass. About that same time a truck had stopped at a stop sign but when the driver moved forward, Johnny was driving toward
it. The driver slammed on the brakes but it was too late. Johnny was ejected and trapped under the truck.

Before Johnny was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, Josh Redd was able to quickly talk to his brother.

“I told him to keep his head up and he was doing good and that he was a tough kid and to just stay calm and that everything was going to be alright,” said Redd.

Johnny is in critical but stable condition. Florida Highway Patrol says the truck driver will not be charged.
