Bomb squad investigating explosion in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A man was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital after reports of an explosion at a condo inside the Isles of Porto Vista Friday night.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, as well as Cape Coral Fire and Rescue, arrived on the scene around 6:30 p.m. at the 3000 block of Pomodora Circle. Cape Coral Fire Department tells WINK News the bomb squad was called out to the community around 8 p.m.

Police say, when first responders arrived, they found a male sitting outside on the ground with life threatening wounds. Sources at the scene tell WINK the blast may have amputated his arms to some degree.

According to Cape PD, Residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Some residents affected will be able to return home in the next several hours. Those who will not be able to return home are being assisted with temporary lodging through the Red Cross.

Cape Coral Police say the bomb squad, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and FDLE are investigating the explosion.
