ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say sheriff’s deputy in northeast Florida is in the hospital with a broken leg after a traffic stop led to a fight.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reports that Deputy Lyman Hall tried to pull over 30-year-old Irick Bob Miguel Barfield, who was traveling 90 mph in a 45 mph zone early Thursday.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Chuck Mulligan tells the St. Augustine Record (http://bit.ly/1GgEgIs) that Barfield failed to pull over when Hall attempted to stop the vehicle.

Hall pursued, and when Barfield stopped, he tried to enter a house through the front door.

Mulligan says a fight broke out, and Hall’s leg was slammed in the door. Hall’s injuries are “significant” but not life-threatening.

Barfield was arrested Thursday evening and faces multiple charges. He was being held on $22,500 bail.
