CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A multimillion-dollar road paving project scheduled to begin Monday in Cape Coral has been delayed.

The construction will affect areas on Diplomat Parkway, from Burnt Store Road to Santa Barbara Boulevard, and Nelson Road from Tropicana Parkway to Kismet Parkway. Shelby Loop, east of Del Prado Boulevard will also be paved.

City officials say the contractor set to work on the paving is delayed finishing another project. The city expects to get an updated schedule from the contractor by the end of the week for a new start date.

The repaving will cost about $4 million and improve about 14 miles of road. Once the project does get started, drivers in this area are asked to use extreme caution while crews work. The city and those who live in the area are anxious for the project to get underway.

“Always bumpy, always shaky, it’s never a smooth ride when you’re driving,” said Michael Tristani.

The project is expected to be completed by April 2016.
