Englewood missing boater’s loved ones begin their own search

ENGLEWOOD, Fla.- It’s been six days since a 48-year-old boater disappeared on the Gulf of Mexico, and the family of Jeffery Reinhardt is still holding onto hope he is alive.

Reinhardt’s family and friends have flown to Southwest Florida from out of state to begin their own search.

“I believe there is a solid possibility that he is alive,” said Ryan Johnson.

It’s been a devastating week for Reinhardt’s family and friends.

“He’s a friend that will do anything for you, at any time, at the drop of a hat. Great guy to be around, wonderful personality,” said Johnson.

On Friday night, they were given heartbreaking news — Reinhardt never made it back to Stump Pass Marina after heading out on his boat that morning.

“I’m sure he would try and make himself visible for anybody so that he could be rescued,” said John Reinhardt.

The search for Reinhardt is extensive, spanning from Englewood to Naples where his boat was found on Saturday, without Reinhardt.

With so much water to cover, Reinhardt’s loved ones are begging for help. They are asking anyone who may have seen the boat to come forward with information. They are also asking people to review any surveillance cameras they have on their homes facing the water.

“There is a lot of unknowns, which makes it a little bit more difficult,” said Johnson.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials say when Reinhardt’s boat was found, the throttle was fully engaged and the boat was out of gas. FWC and the U.S. Coast Guard both suspended their searches earlier this week.
