PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A 38-year-old man is under arrest, accused of trying to cash in checks he found in a woman’s trash.

Robert Bracke is facing multiple charges including grand theft of property and giving worthless checks.

The victim was notified by her bank that some of her checks, to an account closed five years ago, were cashed fraudulently.

To prevent yourself from becoming a victim, you can take a bag of documents to the Goodwill on Tice Street in Lee County to be shredded.

“I’ve heard a lot of horror stories and it seems like it’s happening more and more all the time,” said John Longridge with Goodwill. “There is a need in the community that we find we can fill.”

Each bag full of paper costs $6 to shred.
