PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Construction crews hit a Teco gas line around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, causing a leak that forced minor evacuations and a complete shutdown on US-41 between Port Charlotte and Midway boulevards in Charlotte County, Dee Garland of Charlotte County Fire & EMS said.

The leak did not present any danger to the community, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Crews fixed the leak before 1:30 p.m. and authorities were working to ensure it was safe to reopen the road, deputies said. US-41 was reopened around 2:25 p.m.
