PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. Two personal watercraft riders who fell into the water narrowly escaped a collision with a cruise ship Saturday.

The pilot of the Carnival Magic cruise ship alerted a Brevard County Sheriff’s marine unit deputy when he noticed the water scooter within the ship’s navigation channel, according to the Canaveral Pilots Association.

One of the riders fell off the watercraft, which flipped over and tossed the other rider in the water when she tried to get back on it.

Deputy Taner Primmer pulled both riders aboard his patrol vessel and out of harm’s way while Capt. Doug Brown steered the cruise ship away, the pilots association said.

Cruise ship passenger Anthony Miglioranzi posted video of the rescue to YouTube.
