Record-setting heat to stick for Monday

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. Heat at the coast and inland rain were the rule Sunday, but only the heat should be a factor Monday.

Gulf breezes that kicked in after Fort Myers hit a record high of 92 in the middle of the afternoon caused showers and storms to begin in eastern Charlotte, eastern Lee and central Collier counties, meteorologist Zach Maloch said.

That rain moved into Glades, Hendry and Highlands counties but dissipated during the evening.

Those breezes won’t be present Monday, when skies will be partly cloudy and the high should reach 91 after a morning low of 71.

Sunday’s record high of 92 broke the previous record of 91 set in 1975.
