Lee County School board approves post-Irma schedule

FORT MYERS, Fla. Lee County students missed two weeks of school due to Hurricane Irma, and the changes for the remainder of the school year were allocated Tuesday.

The Lee County School Board made the following changes to the 2017-2018 school year calendar:

Oct.16 becomes a regular school day
Dec. 19 to 21 become regular school days
Dec. 22 becomes an early dismissal day
Jan. 8 becomes a regular school day as a hurricane makeup day
March 16 becomes a regular school day
April 2 is Easter Monday and becomes a regular school day

Lee County commissioners oppose changes to local government

By a 3 – 2 vote, Lee County Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass won his fight to send Lee County’s legislative delegation a letter opposing the lawmakers’ idea of having voters elect a mayor or county executive and doing away with a hired county manager.
