There is a bright future for the project that has been considered an eyesore in Charlotte County. There is a new construction timeline for the Sunseeker Resort in Charlotte Harbor.

Linda Apigo, who lives in Port Charlotte, soaks up the sights and sounds of Charlotte Harbor. She also has her eyes and ears tuned in on the progress of the Sunseeker Resort.

“I’ve seen them up there inside the building working, but I haven’t seen that much.
It, maybe it’s moving a little bit faster now, said Apigo.

The entire Charlotte County community has a front-row seat to the Sunseeker Resort’s construction.

About 250 contractors are working on the site each day. Allegiant, the airline that is building the resort, hopes to finish the hotel tower by the end of the year.

Construction on the two suite towers should finish by early 2022.

Nicole Bouchard, who lives in Port Charlotte said, “hopefully it gets together soon gets put back together.”

Improvements at the Kingsway Golf and Country Club are moving forward, too.

Allegiant’s leaders are confident Charlotte Harbor is the perfect spot for its inaugural resort.

Maurice J. Gallagher, CEO of Allegiant Air said, “That’s where people want to go and we couldn’t be in a better place,”

Locals would rather see the towers go up in another part of Southwest Florida.

Bouchard said, “it should be in like Fort Myers or Sarasota area. Charlotte, small town, you’re taking away from our small town.”

People in this small town are getting ready for more visitors.

“It’ll bring jobs and it’ll bring money,” said Apigo.

Allegiant hopes to start taking reservations early next year.

The project is expected to be finished by spring 2023.
