A Southwest Florida marching band has a dream opportunity ahead of them. The Dunbar High School Marching Tigers band has been invited to perform at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

The opportunity means a lot to the students and the band director, but they need your help before they can make their dream come true.

“Their lives are going to forever be changed,” said Leroy Irving Jr., the director of music at Dunbar High School.

They are the only Florida high school band to get invited. Something they call a real honor because it means a brighter future.

“A lot of the kids depend on this band. Here’s something they can take with them beyond high school,” said Irving Jr.

The band’s director Irving Jr. said this trip means more than just marching on the field. “So much these kids can see and learn. It’s so much more than playing notes.”

Thanks to the support of the community they nearly reached their goal $17,000 goal, raising $8,000. Which is music to their ears.

“We appreciate the city coming to our need,” said Irving Jr.

And with only a little bit more money to go, the excitement is building as the students march toward their big moment.

“The camaraderie that will occur with that. These kids are really going to get an eye-opener and treat,” said Irving Jr.

They need $1,700 more dollars to meet their goal.

The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl is planned for Dec. 30th in Atlanta Georgia.

If you would like to donate or sponsor the band you can do so by contacting the band director at lerovhi@leeschools.net or by calling him at 239-461-5322.
