Authorities are searching for suspects they say made away with more than $26,000 by cashing fraudulent checks.

The incident happened on Jan. 21 at a Check Cashing Store at 11400 S. Cleveland Ave. just before closing time, according to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

A group of individuals cashed what appeared to be payroll checks, each between $850 and $998, for a total value of $26,733.

Crime Stoppers said all of the checks turned out to be fraudulent.
