Officials said that a Florida teacher died Friday after being struck by an SUV and trapped underneath it in the back parking lot of a Tampa Bay area high school.

The Pasco County School District announced the death of Ciara McKeon on Friday afternoon.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the 28-year-old woman had been taken to a local hospital with serious injuries following the Thursday morning incident outside Anclote High School. McKeon later was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where she died of her injuries Friday.

The FHP report said the 24-year-old male driver “failed to observe” the pedestrian. No charges were immediately filed.

A crisis team has responded to the school to offer assistance to students and staff at the school, district officials said.

The school is in Holiday, which is northwest of Tampa.
