A Southwest Florida doctor is headed to Ukraine to help people impacted by the war with Russia.

On Wednesday, emergency room physician Doctor Scott Dunavant met with Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk. The sheriff thanked the doctor and wished him well before he leaves for Ukraine with his team from Global Response Management.

To help keep Dunavant safe, Sheriff Rambosk loaned him a ballistic vest and protective helmet to wear while he provides medical help to the Ukrainian people.

“I’m honored to lend this safety equipment to Dr. Dunavant, a Collier County physician who is bravely and selflessly helping those in dire need. We’ve worked with the team at Global Response Management in Immokalee during the pandemic and know this nonprofit organization provides a great and much-needed service to people in need,” said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk in a post on the Collier County Sheriff’s Facebook page.

Global Response Management is a Florida-based nonprofit that brings emergency humanitarian medicine to vulnerable populations displaced by conflict or disaster. You can learn more about the organization by visiting its website.
