Credit: Collier County Sheriff’s Office A former youth pastor has been arrested for sexting an underage girl. The Marco Island Police department says he sent her nude pictures and attempted to meet up with her several times. And police believe there are more victims out there. Officers say Christopher Reyes used social media apps to access his victims. He was asking for nudes and sending them. Detective Lorenzo Smith works for the Marco Island Police Department. “The messages were lewd. He was sending nude photographs, some of himself,” Smith said. Former youth pastor Christopher Reyes was arrested and now faces charges. The investigation into Reyes began in October of 2021. At the time, Reyes was a youth pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church. But, according to police, the two didn’t meet at church. “The relationship formed all on social media platforms, Instagram, Snapchat,” said Smith. These are apps that your kids likely use to connect with their friends. But, this time, that youth pastor was using the same apps to prey on a young girl. Over time, Reyes started requesting more and more. “The victim provided us with screenshots of some of the lewd messaging,” Smith said. Smith worked the case and said Reyes even attempted to meet up with an underage girl. But, thankfully, police say that never happened. “It’s always an unfortunate thing when somebody who is a custodian of children, you know, aging from five to you know the teenage years are doing this kind of behavior,” said Smith. Police are now investigating whether or not Reyes targeted any minors at the church. If you’re a victim of Reyes or have any information about him or the case, you can contact the Marco Island Police Department at (239) 389-5050. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
