The Collier County Sheriff’s Office says two children are in stable condition after it appeared they were stabbed while sleeping Wednesday night.
Deputies have arrested Trevor Kilian, 47, for the stabbing. They say when they arrived at a home on Ibis Cove Circle, they found Kilian on the floor of the master bedroom with self-inflicted cuts on both of his arms with a knife lying nearby.
According to the arrest report, one of the kids was found with two stab wounds in the back, the other had a stab wound to the chest. Both children had collapsed lungs. One of the victims is 7 years old, while the other is only 5.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked. Absolutely shocked and heartbroken,” said Judith Morton, who lives on Ibis Cove.
Deputies interviewed the woman who was in the home during the attack, who said Kilian was a synthetic cannabis user but had stopped using recently and began acting abnormally and having manic episodes.
“My wife told me she came out and saw the ambulance. And she saw the wife and kids,” said Njhia Van, whose wife walks with victims every day.
According to the arrest report, the woman said there were no signs of anything wrong leading up to the stabbing. She said Kilian woke up around 10 p.m. and, shortly after, heard screaming coming from the children’s bedroom.
The woman said she ran to the kids’ room where she found Kilian, who said, “I stabbed them, I stabbed them, what have I done,” according to the arrest report.
“I don’t like to hear anybody being stabbed but children most of all,” said Morton.
Deputies say the woman called 911 and barricaded herself in the room with the kids until deputies arrived.
Kilian is facing charges of attempted felony murder and aggravated child abuse. He is still in the hospital being treated for his self-inflicted injuries.
