Florida Highway Patrol says a 64-year-old woman and an unborn baby died on Monday after a three-vehicle crash on US-41 in Charlotte County.

Troopers say a pickup truck towing a trailer was traveling south on US-41 near Zemel Road just before 8 a.m. when they lost control. FHP says the truck crossed the median and collided head-on with an SUV.

According to troopers, the SUV traveled into the right northbound lane after the initial crash and collided with a sedan.

The 64-year-old Cape Coral woman who died was a passenger in the sedan. The 48-year-old driving the sedan had only minor injuries.

Troopers say the 28-year-old driving the truck and his 29-year-old and 40-year-old passengers also had minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol says the 35-year-old woman driving the SUV has serious injuries. They say she was pregnant at the time of the crash, and her unborn child died later at the hosptial.

Florida Highway Patrol says their investigation determined a semi-truck was involved as a non-contact participant in the crash.
