3 boys accused of vehicle burglaries in Port Charlotte neighborhood

Three boys, ages 12 to 15, were arrested Tuesday night after deputies say they stole from multiple vehicles in a Port Charlotte neighborhood.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, a neighbor on Hayworth Road saw three kids checking vehicles for unlocked doors and contacted law enforcement just before 7 p.m. Deputies arrived to canvas the area and witnessed the trio entering a Toyota Tundra.

A 15-year-old was exiting the passenger side door, while a 13-year-old was exiting the driver’s side door and a 12-year-old was seen acting as the lookout. The first two boys were detained as the third started to run away but was ordered to come back .

An investigation determined that the boys had entered multiples vehicles in the area and removed various items, including a knife from one.

The trio was taken to CCSO’s local district office, where they were interviewed and provided deputies information on the vehicles they had entered. They were arrested and charged accordingly.

The 15-year-old faces charges of burglary of dwelling, structure or conveyance while armed (four counts); unarmed burglary of an unoccupied conveyance (seven counts); larceny petit theft, second degree, first offense (two counts); and unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling.

The 13-year-old faces a charge of unarmed burglary of an unoccupied conveyance. The 12-year-old faces charges of unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling (three counts), unarmed burglary of an unoccupied conveyance (10 counts), and larceny petit theft, second degree, first offense (two counts).
