Several parents have reached out to WINK News about a video circulating on social media showing what appears to be a “Confederate History Month” lesson at Manatee Middle School.

A spokesperson for Collier County Public Schools tells us the unauthorized video ran during the schools’ morning news announcements on April 12th.

They tell us it was created and narrated by a faculty member as a recognition of Confederate History Month, something that is not included within the district’s curriculum guides and instructional materials.

Collier County Public Schools says this video was neither sanctioned nor approved by the district and is no longer accessible.

The district has addressed the incident, and an investigation is underway.

Below is a statement released by Chad Oliver, the executive director of communications & community engagement for Collier County Public Schools.
