Three Florida Southwestern volleyball players are taking their junior college dominance to the next level.

Buccaneers’ Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen says they truly left a legacy in southwest Florida.

Outside hitter Alondra Alarcon was the Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year.

“She’s a true six rotation, reads the game, plays the game,” Baziquetto-Allen said.

Next season Alarcon will suit up for UNLV. She credits FSW with getting her to where she is now.

“All the people make me a better person and a better athlete every day so I’m just really happy to be part of this program,” Alarcon said.

From the number one team in the NJCAA to the number eight team in the NCAA, setter Roberta Purashaj will take the court for the Oregon Ducks.

“Being around the people, with the team and the coaching staff: I really feel welcomed and really good around them,” Purashaj said.

The 2023 NJCAA Player of the Year is the most sought after recruit to come out of the Bucs’ program.

“She’s off the curve,” Baziquetto-Allen said. “You know you see setters, but then Roberta is just like one step above that.”

Outside hitter Madu Fontes is Idaho bound to play for the Vandals.

“I really think it is a good school academically and I really like the place because it’s natural,” Fontes said.

“Her leadership this year, it was just unbelievable,” Baziquetto-Allen said. “She took the team and she really took charge of everything.”

These girls have plenty of winning experience under their belt.

The Buccaneers went 58-2 and won back-to-back national championships the last two seasons.
