Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gave a commencement speech to the graduating class of State Guard at the Camp Blanding Joint Operations Training Center in Starke.

During his speech on Thursday, DeSantis discussed how integral the Florida State Guard is to defending the state, especially during weather-related crises.

The governor spoke on how the state guard responds during crises, relaying the events of the 2024 hurricane season and the early 2025 cold snap, during which more than 10 inches of snow was recorded in the northern portion of the state.

“I’m honored to be the Commander in Chief of this capable group of state guards,” said DeSantis.
