NORTH NAPLES, Fla. – A search has been suspended for a reported missing swimmer on Vanderbilt Beach.

North Naples Fire Department told WINK News they received a call about a swimmer who went underwater and never came up around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.

“[The caller said] laying face down unresponsive. It was very descriptive detailed report. So we went ahead and issued a MERT response for search and rescue, prepared everyone to get some divers in the water see if we could search,” said Battalion Chief, Erik Espineta.

Crews searched the area on foot and with a helicopter Sunday, but were unable to find the swimmer. The beach patrol has been told to check the area periodically to see if anything washed up.
