MIAMI (AP) – A former Miami police officer has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reports that Julio Ruiz pleaded guilty Thursday to three counts of affecting commerce by extortion under color of official right.

A news release says Ruiz accepted bribes from an FBI confidential source on three occasions in 2013. In exchange for $1,800 cash and a cell phone, Ruiz provided the source information about traffic crashes and falsified reports of towed vehicles.

Ruiz is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 22. Each of the three counts carries up to 20 years in prison.
