North Port PD: Man sets car on fire in attempted fraud scheme

NORTH PORT, Fla.- A 76-year-old Venice man has been arrested after falsely reporting his car was stolen, North Port police said.

Authorities say on Saturday, Finis Ray Jordan reported his 2015 Chrysler 200 stolen to North Port police.

During an investigation, police discovered the vehicle was not stolen. Instead, authorities say Jordan admitted to lighting the car on fire in the woods in Charlotte County.

Jordan is charged with two felonies, arson and burn with intent to defraud an insurer. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for making a false report.
