JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – A Jacksonville police officer has been reunited with his dog, which had been missing after apparently being shot during a burglary at their home.

The Florida Times-Union reports the pit bull named Hemingway was recovering from a gunshot wound to its snout.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Officer Paul Shaw’s home was burglarized early Tuesday while he was working. Shaw said he found blood at the scene, but his dog was missing until neighbors found Hemingway on Friday.

An Orange Park veterinarian is donating care for Shaw’s dog. Shaw says he’s grateful for the community’s support.

The sheriff’s office has said a 14-year-old was arrested on several charges related to the burglary. Authorities also said a truck and gun stolen from Shaw’s home have been recovered.
