Lehigh Acres Fire control & Rescue District responded to a brush fire just under 2 acres near homes in Lehigh Acres Friday.

Crews were in the neighborhood on 41st St SW near Stat Road 82 and put the fire out.

Flames moved close to a family’s home at the scene, nearly forcing them to evacuate. Melissa Sanlelices said she first heard a loud boom, but she didn’t realize it came from close to her house until her neighbors knocked to tell her the home was in danger.

The fire quickly spread to nearly two acres, as more than a dozen crews raced to the scene, including fire rescue, EMS and brush trucks.

“Well, the first thing that went through my mind was I’m going to lose my property that I just bought basically in December,” Melissa Sanlelices said. “That was one of my fears, so I started packing up all of my stuff just in case, and I unplugged my computer for my job, and I took everything with me just to make sure, and I left it in the garage, just to make sure, if we had to evacuate, if the fire expanded toward our property.”

There were no reported injuries or damage to property due to the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
