A Bonita Springs man was arrested late Wednesday after a shooting left another man dead.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday they responded to a home on S. Riverside Drive, where two men were fighting and one was shot in the chest.

The suspect, identified as Luis Miguel Moreno, 32, fled the scene, and a license plate reader was used to track him down to the Pine Manor area.

“After gathering the facts surrounding the physical altercation and collecting witness statements and physical evidence, detectives found probable cause to arrest Moreno,” explained Sheriff Carmine Marceno during a press conference.

The victim was taken to an NCH hospital then airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

“While witnesses rushed the victim to Naples Community Hospital in Bonita Springs, medical staff at NCH were able to stabilize the victim,” Marceno said. “But due to the injuries, the victim was airlifted to Lee Memorial as a trauma alert.”

Moreno is facing charges of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon. The investigation will possibly lead to a second-degree murder charge, according to Sheriff Carmine Marceno.

Moreno is in the Lee County Jail.
