A teen is dead after a tandem kayak ride on the Estero River went wrong on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, they were called to a boating accident at around 12:30 p.m. after two people fell into the river.

One person was able to swim to shore but the second person, Jonathan Pierre-Francois, 19, of Lehigh Acres, did not resurface.

Emergency responders found Pierre-Francois, who was already deceased, Brown said.

“Unfortunately, neither occupant was wearing a personal floatation device at the time of this incident,” Brown said. “This is an active investigation, and we will provide additional information when available.”
