A Cape Coral parent has pleaded no contest to child neglect charges after his 18-month-old son overdosed on fentanyl.

Angel Vasquez was sentenced to five years of probation, the first two under house arrest. Vasquez must also take a parenting course, get random drug screenings and forfeit any firearms he owns.

The court says any contact with his son would be according to a DCF case plan.

Vasquez was arrested last year after his son got into a pill bottle filled with fentanyl on his dresser. The arrest report said Vasquez did not have a prescription for the pills.

Emergency room doctors at Cape Coral Hospital had to give the child two shots of Narcan to save him.
