A Punta Gorda man was arrested for making online written threats to kill another person through Facebook on Aug. 24.

Edison Kirkland Jr., 49, was arrested on charges of written threat to kill or do bodily harm.

On Aug. 24, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to Florida Street in Punta Gorda in reference to a tip reported of Kirkland making online threats to kill another person through Facebook.

Kirkland’s post read, “Because I am not a coward and I’ll be telling you to your face when I come to kill you.” and “I am killing you for so that there is no question about why you are being killed and your life is being taken,” according to a Charlotte County report.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s located Kirkland at his residence and took him into custody based on past and previous threats made.

Once in custody Kirkland was asked if he made those threats.

Kirkland said that he would not admit to posting the threats, because additional posts were missing, according to a Charlotte County report.

Kirkland was taken to the Charlotte County Jail.
