A Collier County man was found guilty of sexually battering a child after investigators discovered he was having inappropriate conversations with an underage girl while in Collier County Sheriff’s Office custody.

Cedric Patterson, 27, was found guilty of lewd or lascivious battery after a two-day trial.

The State Attorney’s Office says Patterson was arrested in June 2021 following an investigation by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Section.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Section was contacted by the sheriff’s office’s correction investigators who oversee the Naples Jail.

Patterson, who was in jail on unrelated charges, was found to have exchanged hundreds of emails and phone calls, many of which investigators say were sexually explicit, with a girl who was found to be underage.

Law enforcement contacted the victim’s family, and investigators learned the victim met Patterson on social media. They say Patterson had visited the victim before being arrested and committed lewd battery on the victim.
