Liam, the 4-year-old cat badly burned on his paws during a large brush fire in Golden Gate Estates, died from his injuries on Wednesday.

“Our Collier County Domestic Animal Services family is mourning the loss of our sweet Liam,” wrote Kenny Howell from CCDAS in a press release. “Unfortunately, Liam succumbed to his injuries and passed peacefully today. We are heartbroken at this tragedy, but grateful Liam knew love before crossing the Rainbow Bridge.”

The cat was aptly named Liam because it means “warrior.”

CCDAS thanked several frontline animal care workers and support staff for supporting Liam during the weeks he spent in their care.

Howell writes that a memory stone will be placed in the CCDAS memorial garden to honor Liam “and his fighting spirit.”
