UPS is kicking off a three-day nationwide hiring blitz Thursday, with the goal of hiring around 100,000 employees throughout the U.S. and at least 600 in Southwest Florida, offering a gateway into a brand-new career and a way to get some extra cash during the holiday season.

If you’re a seasonal employee and decide you want to stay, UPS offers full health care benefits, a pension plan, paid time off and even tuition reimbursement for people who want to pursue an education at the same time. The 600 Southwest Florida employees would be filling positions for driver helpers, personal vehicle drivers, tractor trailer drivers and even some human resources jobs.

Yanina Hernandez-Bynum, the Florida human resources director for UPS, told WINK News how the situation stands with Florida truck drivers.

“We’re all aware of some of the challenges with truck drivers throughout the country,” Hernandez-Bynum said. “From a Florida standpoint, I will say we haven’t necessarily faced those challenges, not as far as truck drivers… but we do have some opportunity, we don’t have any concerns with being able to fill the positions that we currently have available.”

Hernandez-Bynum insists there will not be a trickle-down effect that could prevent a gift from getting here in time for the holidays or even impact the food on your table. This “Brown Friday” hiring event is really about opening the door to whatever career you may want with the company.

“Even if people aren’t looking for a career with UPS, it’s a great opportunity as a second job for people to earn more money,” Hernandez-Bynum said. “It’s also a great opportunity if there’s any college students out there that are returning home for the break, the holiday season. It’s a great opportunity for them, as well, to earn some money during that time frame.”

If you’re interested, you can apply here. The application process has been shortened to around 30 minutes, and you could potentially get the job the same day you apply.
