A shooter is on the run after a stray bullet flew into a family’s home in Collier County going through a window and landing in an 18-year-old’s bed.

Luckily nobody was hurt at the Golden Gate Estates house. Sara Kilduff, the family’s mother, found the bullet in her son’s bedroom. “Thank God my son wasn’t in his bed at the time,” Sara said.

However, her daughter was home, “you know if it was just a little more to the left, it would’ve hit her window and went through to her room,” Sara said.

Sara didn’t think much of the shots she heard that night until her son woke her up. “My son came and woke me up thought someone was trying to break into his room because he said there was glass all on his bed,” Sara says. “We got up and looked and could tell it was a bullet hole through his bedroom window.”

Other Golden Gate Estates residents had their own comments, “they’ve heard bullets fly past them or if they hear gunshots and their kids are outside they’re going to bring them in right away,” one resident said. “You don’t know if somebody is shooting straight in the air and where that’s going to land.”

Florida does have a statute where if you own more than an acre of land backyard shooting is legal. However, it becomes reckless if a bullet leaves your property.
